Republic Pictures premiered this unique and vastly different iteration of Captain America in 1944, which was to be their last serial featuring a superhero. Though it does differ significantly from the famed source material, it undeniably delivers on some excellent action sequences and fight choreography. The serial also includes a memorable performance by Lionel Atwill as the main villain of the serial, the Scarab, as he and his minions face off against District Attorney, Grant Gardner (Dick Purcell), a.k.a. Captain America, along with his lovely assistant Gail Richards (Lorna Gray), when the vengeful villain begins to murder his former colleagues one by one for their slight against him.
